Collection: Extra Wide 38mm Biothane Dog Collars

A collar that's too narrow can dig into a strong neck. A collar that's too wide can sit wrong on a slim one.

Our 38mm Biothane collar solves both problems. It's wide enough to spread the load on a big, powerful dog. It's light enough to still sit right on a lean, narrow-necked one.

Handmade in Yorkshire. Waterproof. Free engraving on every collar, so your dog's details go with them, not on a tag that can fall off.

Strength shouldn't come at the cost of comfort.

Built for powerful breeds

A standard-width collar can work loose or dig into a thick, muscular neck. Own a Saint Bernard, Newfoundland, or Doberman? You know a narrow collar can look and feel undersized.

At 38mm wide, this collar spreads the pressure instead of concentrating it in one thin line. That means comfort, even when your dog is putting real weight into a walk.

Extra-wide 38mm width, built for large and giant breeds
Non-stretch Biothane holds its shape under sustained pulling
Solid Alumax clasp for fast, secure on and off
Waterproof and mould-resistant, ideal for swimming and outdoor work

Built for powerful breeds
Width without the bulk.

Sized Right for Sighthounds

A wide collar can look bulky or sit awkwardly on a slim, narrow neck. Whippets, greyhounds, and lurchers have a different shape entirely, and a collar built only for bulk can ride up or look wrong.

This collar is cut to sit flat and settle properly, even on a narrow neck, without sacrificing the strength and waterproofing you'd expect from Biothane.

• Sits flat against a narrow neck, doesn't ride up
• Lightweight despite the width, no unnecessary bulk
• Smooth Biothane won't catch or rub against short coats
• Free engraving and quick-release clasp, same as every collar we make

Sized Right for Sighthounds
  • Built to Handle Real Strength

    Wide enough to matter.

At 38mm, pressure spreads properly. It doesn't bunch into a thin strip. This is the width for a dog that pulls hard.

  • Cut to Suit a Narrow Neck Too

    Width without the bulk.

Still light. Still flexible. It won't overwhelm a slimmer neck. It stays where you set it.

  • Always Waterproof, Always Fresh

For Dogs Who Find Every Puddle.

Biothane doesn't hold dirt, water, or smell. A quick rinse and it's clean again.

  • Engraved, Not Tagged

Quiet, Safe, and Always On Hand.

Your dog's details sit on the clasp itself. No dangling tag. Nothing to snag or lose.

  • A Fit That Holds

    Set it once, forget it.

Non-stretch Biothane. Secure adjustment points. The fit you set is the fit you keep.

Built to Hold Under Real Strength

A weak clasp failing under strain isn't a minor inconvenience on a powerful dog, it's a genuine safety risk. Our Alumax clasp is built to hold securely under sustained force, not just resist everyday grit.

That's the difference between a collar that copes with a gentle pull and one you can trust on a dog that leans into the lead.

Built to Hold Under Real Strength
Quiet, safe and built to last.

Want Engraving Without Dangling Tags?

Tags can be noisy, snag on things, or fall off entirely. Our clasp collars fix that by engraving your dog’s details directly onto the clasp.

Features:

Free engraving included
• Up to three lines of information
• Clear and long-lasting text

No moving parts, no jingling, and no risk of losing identification. It is a smart, safe way to make sure your dog is always carrying your details, wherever your adventures take you.

Why Width Actually Matters

Independent research from Nottingham Trent University and the University of Nottingham tested how collar width affects the pressure placed on a dog's neck under lead force. The finding was clear: a narrower contact area concentrates that force into a smaller space, while a wider one spreads it out.

At 38mm, this collar is built around that principle. It's not a substitute for good lead manners, no collar is, but if your dog does put weight into the lead, width is doing real work to reduce how concentrated that pressure gets.

Why Width Actually Matters

Biothane Large Breed Collars - Frequently Asked Questions

Is the 38mm collar too wide for a sighthound?

Not necessarily. We've fitted 38mm Biothane collars to sighthounds, including whippets and lurchers. The material flexes, so it sits flat rather than sitting proud on a narrow neck. Check our sizing guide first if you're unsure.

What breeds is the 38mm collar suitable for?

Large and giant breeds like Saint Bernards, Newfoundlands, and Dobermans. Also sighthounds, like greyhounds, whippets, and lurchers, who need extra width without extra bulk.

Can I get engraving on the 38mm collar?

Yes, free engraving is included.

Is the 38mm Biothane collar waterproof?

Yes. Biothane doesn't absorb water, dirt, or odour. Good for swimming, rain, or muddy walks.

Will the collar stretch or lose its shape?

No. Biothane doesn't stretch. The fit you set is the fit it keeps.

Is the clasp strong enough for a dog that pulls hard?

Yes, for everyday strength. If your dog is an especially forceful puller, our buckle-fastening collars offer extra security. Worth considering alongside this one.

How do I clean a Biothane collar?

Wipe with a damp cloth, or rinse under the tap. It won't hold onto dirt or smell.

Where are these collars made?

Every collar is handmade to order in our Yorkshire workshop.
