Size Guide

How to measure for a martingale / half-choke collar:

1. Use a soft measuring tape
You can also use a piece of string and measure it against a ruler.

2. Measure three areas
- Top of the neck (just behind the ears): This is where the collar will sit when it tightens.
- Middle of the neck: The typical resting position for the collar when relaxed.
- Widest part of the head: Around the ears and jaw, to ensure the collar can slide over the head.

3. Choose the correct collar size
Select a size where all three of your measurements fall within the collar’s adjustable range. This ensures the collar fits properly when both relaxed and tightened.

4. Check the fit using the two-finger rule
Once fitted, you should be able to slide two flat fingers (side by side) between the collar and your dog’s neck. This ensures it's snug but not too tight.

Washing: Our Harris Tweed & Abraham Moon collars can be machine washed. Simply place the collar in a washing bag and use a wool wash cycle for best results.

Drying: Once the wash has finished, gently stretch the collar out so it lies flat and allow it to dry naturally. Do not tumble dry. Our tweed collars don't shrink as the material is sewn on the webbing.

About Our Materials: Harris Tweed & Abraham Moon fabric is made from 100% British wool - inherently bacteria and odour-resistant. Wool is naturally breathable, wind and water resistant, making it the perfect material for outdoor adventures with your pet.

Maintenance Tips: Between washes, brush the collar gently to remove surface dirt and maintain the wool's natural texture. Regular airing will help keep the collar fresh and maintain its natural properties.

What is a martingale collar and how does it work?

A martingale collar is a type of dog collar designed to tighten slightly when your dog pulls, helping prevent them from slipping out without choking. It offers gentle control by applying even pressure around the neck — ideal for breeds with slim heads like Greyhounds or Whippets.

What’s the difference between a martingale and a choke chain?

Unlike a traditional choke chain, a martingale collar has a limited tightening action, preventing excessive pressure. It’s designed to be safer and more comfortable while still offering gentle correction and improved control on walks.

Which dog breeds are martingale collars best for?

Martingale collars are ideal for sighthounds (Greyhounds, Whippets, Salukis), dogs with slender necks, or those prone to slipping out of regular collars. They also work well for dogs that pull or need gentle control during walks.

Are your martingale collars safe for everyday use?

Yes. Our collars are made with a soft Kona cotton lining and reinforced webbing core, offering both comfort and durability. The gentle tightening action is only engaged when needed and won’t harm your dog’s neck.

Can I use a martingale collar for training?

Yes. Martingale collars are often used by trainers as a safer alternative to choke chains. They provide a clear signal without harsh corrections, making them suitable for leash training and daily walks.

What size should I order?

Measure the widest part of your dog’s head and the base of their neck. Choose a size that fits over the head but sits comfortably around the neck when relaxed. If you're unsure, we’re happy to help with sizing advice or custom orders.

Are these collars adjustable?

Yes. Each martingale collar features an adjustable fabric loop, allowing you to customise the fit for your dog. This ensures comfort, safety, and proper function.

Is the chain noisy or heavy?

No. The chain is lightweight and smooth, designed to provide gentle tension without adding bulk. It won’t clank loudly or irritate your dog during wear.

Can I get a matching lead or accessories?

Yes! We offer matching leads, bow ties, bandanas, and even headbands for you. All are handmade to order using the same premium Harris Tweed or Abraham Moon wool for a coordinated look.

Are your martingale collars machine washable?

Yes. All collars are Scotch Guard treated and fully machine washable. We recommend using a gentle cycle and allowing them to air dry to maintain their quality.

Harris Tweed: Heritage, Heart & Hard‑Working Performance

Why Harris Tweed for our dog collars?

Because your dog deserves materials with substance, not just style. Harris Tweed is the world famous cloth hand woven from 100% pure new wool in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland and protected by law (the Harris Tweed Act 1993) and the Orb Mark.

That pedigree brings authentic British craftsmanship, traceability and trust, and a set of natural performance benefits that solve everyday collar pain points.

Naturally better for dogs (and their humans):

Odour resistant by nature – Wool fibres help resist lingering smells, so your Harris Tweed dog collar won’t hold onto that “wet dog” aroma like many synthetics do.

Breathable and temperature regulating – Wool manages moisture vapour, helping the neck area stay drier and more comfortable.

Durable, hard wearing face fabric – The famous twill weave stands up to daily adventures. (We pair it with a heavy duty internal webbing core and metal hardware so the looks aren’t the only thing that lasts.)

Easy to freshen up – Most dirt brushes off when dry; for deeper cleans, follow our simple care guide. Machine wash as required.

Ethical, renewable and UK made – A natural fibre, legally protected origin, and a living island craft tradition you can feel good supporting.

What makes Harris Tweed special?

Every metre is hand-woven by islanders at their homes in the Outer Hebrides, inspected, and stamped with the Harris Tweed Authority’s Orb Mark, your guarantee of authenticity. This isn’t “tweed look”. It’s the real thing, with colours inspired by heather, sea and sky, spun and woven to last.

Design that blends craft with engineering

We showcase Harris Tweed on the outside for heritage, beauty and odour resistance, and line the inside with soft, skin-friendly materials (Kona cotton). The load is carried by robust webbing and high-quality metal hardware, so you get premium aesthetics without compromising on safety or strength.

In short: A Harris Tweed dog collar gives you iconic British style, proven comfort, natural odour control and serious durability, all wrapped around a structure that’s built to handle real dogs in the real world.
